Mairi’s music retreats on Lismore are a treasured part of many-a-players education! A full weekend of relaxed tuition, island life, great home cooked food (which you’ll generally help prepare) and a fantastic Saturday night ceilidh….. hard to beat.
This year Mairi is offering seven bespoke trad music weekends, combining effective learning, stimulating groupwork and simplicity. Give your playing a break!
Mairi has many awards for her work as a musician – ‘Scots Singer of the Year 2009′, ‘Tutor of the Year’ 2012; Female musician of the year ( liveireland) Neil Gow Award 2010. She combines teaching with performing and writing.
Since 2007 Mairi has taught at the Coast String Summer camp in BC, Canada and also at Mission folk Camp, Vancouver.
The teaching is a combination of tradition and technique and a chance for her to work with wherever you are at. Because the numbers are low – 8 participants for most courses, she attends to individual needs. So whether it’s technical like improving bowing, left hand leading, intonation, opening up your voice… or traditional: ornaments; tempos; rhythm; telling the story in a ballad, these courses support both aspects.
Limited to 8 places for fiddle courses
The cost includes accomodation (dorm style), all meals and 10 hours tuition.
If you’d like more privacy please bring a tent or take a B&B on the island. Non residential cost £170
